About MiND: Media Independence
MiND: Media Independence offers a fresh approach to public media.
A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, MiND owns and operates channel 35 in the Philadelphia-South Jersey region, and operates digital channel 66.4 in NYC-North Jersey.
MiND’s signal covers over 11 million households and nearly 25 million people from southern Connecticut to northern Maryland--more than any other local broadcaster in the USA. MiND’s target audience is people 35-54.
In addition, all of MiND’s programs can be found on www.mindtv.org, both as a “linear stream” (as seen on TV) and on-demand.
MiND actively promotes creativity, innovation, diversity, imagination, service to under-served audiences, and an active role in community problem-solving. We believe in the power of media to change communities, tell important stories, and transform the way we think about ourselves and our world. MiND gives voice to communities not often seen on television. MiND is inclusive--we teach people to use media, and then provide extensive distribution.
Community members--individuals, nonprofits, partner organizations, educational institutions and more--produce about one in four of MiND’s five-minute programs. Many more programs are produced by MiND with local partners. A monthly Boot Camp program has trained hundreds of new MiND producers. Our college internship program has trained hundreds more. And, every month, MiND partners with a community organization to present MiND programs on a significant theme--followed by a panel discussion and a networking event; partners include Wells Fargo Bank, Drexel University, The Schulykill Center for Environmental Education, The William Penn Foundation, and more.
About one-third of MiND’s program schedule is filled with news, documentaries, and international programs. In the Philadelphia market, MiND also presents international news and documentaries by NHK World, France 24 and RT.
